- Veteran screen goddess Lin Ching-Hsia's mother jumped to her death from
the balcony of her 12th-floor flat in Taipei yesterday morning.
Her mother believed to be suffering from long-term depression, fell at around 2am.
A security guard found her lying on the pavement, bleeding from the head, reported China Times, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The elderly woman, who had leg ailments, had flown to the US for an operation last May, accompanied by her daughter, who was pregant then.
Ching-hsia, who starred in films such as Chungking Express and Dragon Inn, had a very close relationship with her mother and visited her in Taiwan frequently.
According to reports, her mother had attempted suicide five times, but her husband and Filipino maid managed to stop her before it was too late.
The retired Taiwan actress, who lives in Hongkong, rushed back to Taipei upon receiving the news of her mother's death.
