Baby Girl for Ching-Hsia - Streats Monday 11 June 2001

Former Taiwanese movie queen Lin Ching-Hsia gave birth to a healthy daughter in Hong Kong on Saturday.  The 3.2 kg baby is Lin's second child with husband Michael Ying Lee Yuen, Esprit Asia's boss, whom she married in 1994.  Lin's father, who lives in Taiwan, told reporters from Hong Kong's Apple Daily that both his daughter and granddaughter are doing fine.  Lin, 46, arrived at the hospital with her husband on Saturday at around 4pm.  Baby Ai-Ching was delivered by Caesarean section about an hour later.  Her arrival came as a surprise as earlier rumours had it that Lin was expecting a baby boy.  No surprise, however, is the baby's name.  Lin and her husband had agreed earlier that if the baby is a girl, she would be called Ai-Ching, which means Loving Ching (Lin's Chinese name).  When their first daughter was born five years ago, the doting dad named her Ai-Lin - Loving Lin - as a declaration of his love for Lin.  Lin and Ying have another daughter, Jia-Chien, 13, from Ying's previous marriage to former model Flora Cheung.  If their next baby is a girl, we wonder if they would named her Ai-Hsia, for Loving Lin Ching-Hsia.
