LESLIE CHEUNG's good friend, Anita Mui, has contained her anguish after
two teary days, but his former agent Chan Suk Fun might need therapy.
Chan had gone to meet Cheung at the Madarin Oriental on Tuesday, only to see him dead outside the hotel. The Sun newspaper says that since then, she has been feeling bad and asking friends: "Why did he do that?" Her friends, who are worried for her mental health, are suggesting that she see a psyshiatrist, it adds. But Chan's goddaughter, Nadia Chan, says: "She's strong and time will dilute the event."
Mui, report says, was crying and chanting Buddhist sutras for Cheung for two days after his suicide. Her friends and proteges, including Andy Hui and Denise Ho, had to take turns to check on her and keep her company. Ho told Sing Pao: "Grief is inevitable, but she's fine."
Former actress Lin Ching-Hsia, who watched Gangs of New York with Cheung two weeks ago, told Oriental Daily News that she had sensed something was wrong with him. She said he was tense and trembling when he held her by her shoulder. She said: "We were going to get a doctor to help him, but it was held up by Sars. Tsui Hark was helping him to write a screenplay, thinking he would be fine once filming began, thinking he would give him the screenplay on April 2. Who knew it was not to be?"
Yesterday, reports said the organizers of the Hong Kong Film Awards are asking the Heavenly Kings - Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai and Andy Lau - to perform a tribute to Cheung at the event on Sunday.
