"No, I never said that. (Aren't you working with Chow Yun Fat?) No." Will she act again? Ching Ha only smiled. She nodded when asked whether she had to focus on taking care of her family.

  14. TAIPEI - A friend of Lin Ching-hsia has denied tabloid talk that the former Taiwanese actress' 12-year marriage is on the rocks. Since Lin left showbusiness to marry Esprit Holdings chairman Michael Ying in 1994, they have been living in Hong Kong in apparent domestic bliss. But Hong Kong weekly Easy Finder alleged that Ying, who made Forbes magazine's billionaire list two years ago, has been romancing a Shanghainese former employee.

Taiwan's Apple Daily also made much of the fact that Lin, who rarely speaks of returning to the screen, said last Saturday that she would like to make a movie with Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat.

Her friend, former actress Tao Min-ming, has rebutted the rumour of marital woes.  'This rumour has been around for a long time, there's no truth to it,' said Tao, who is married to Hong Kong actor Ti Lung.  She added: 'Ching-hsia jumped when she read the report. As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with her health or her marriage.'  Easy Finder reported that its journalist had gone to Lin and fired off questions about the rumours. She was said to have frowned and stayed silent when asked: 'Is it true that your marriage with Mr Ying is in trouble?'  But after a few such questions, she simply smiled and left.

Lin, 51, and Ying, 56, have two daughters. He has an elder daughter from his first marriage.

The power of religion can never be underestimated. Jet Li (李連杰) and diva-turned-housewife Brigitte Lin (林青霞), both absent from the local celebrity scene for years, jointly attended a Buddhist ceremony at Dhama Drum Mountain (法鼓山) last Friday. 29. As he made his way down the red carpet, Chow spent a good amount of time with each TV outlet, answering their (sometimes frivolous and inane) questions with patience and congeniality. An amusing moment occurred when a white female reporter asked Chow to name his favorite actress. Without hesitation, Chow answered "Brigitte Lin", then said "Lin Ching-Hsia" for the benefit of the Mandarin-speaking reporters listening in on the conversation. To this, the anonymous reporter could only muster a blank stare and asked "Who's that?" A rather bemused and incredulous Chow dutifully informed her that Brigitte Lin is merely "Taiwan's Number One Beauty" and "the most beautiful woman in Chinese cinema". Needless to say, this exchange brought a few chuckles to the Chinese reporters within earshot and has since made for headline fodder in at least one Chinese newspaper.

  36. * (1/27/2005) Intercontinental has released the late director Li Han Hsiang's costume musical THE DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER (GUM YUK LEUNG YUEN HUNG LAU MUNG) in VCD format. The film starred Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha), Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga), Deborah Li (Dik Bor Lai), and Michelle Yim (Mai Shuet). When Li Han Hsiang daringly cast the girl next door Lam Ching Ha to play Ga Bo Yuk, everyone felt Li Han Hsiang was joking with the great beauty because until then Lam Ching Ha has always played sorrowful yet rebellious little beauties. Asking her to play a man was undoubtedly quite regretful. Finally Lam Ching Ha brought Ga Bo Yuk to life. Thus today she says, "THE DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER is my DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER!" Later Lam Ching Ha's performance in Tsui Hark's THE SWORDSMAN II (DUNG FONG BUT BAI) has rather demonstrated her attraction in a masculine role and her as a beautiful actress who can play either sex. Some has said that Lam Ching Ha's career hit another peak due to Tsui Hark's help. However seemingly Li Han Hsiang's THE DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER was the one that has realized the "man" in her.

  57. Tsui Hark at the Cannes Film Festival revealed plans to make a movie about Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha)'s life and his interest in casting Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi. Pak Chi at the ONE NITE IN MONGKOK (WONG GOK HAK YEH) premiere expressed that she has no idea about the news but she said that since childhood Ching Ha has been her idol. The chance to play her idol is her honor and she definitely will try her best.

Pak Chi has been working on THE PROMISE (MO GIK) in Beijing. Earlier she returned to Hong Kong for a commercial shoot and concert performance. Today she will return to the production of the film. She said that because no one has mentioned to her about the Lam Ching Ha movie, the project seems like it will be far down the road. Since OUTSIDE THE WINDOW (CHEUNG OI) she has admired Ching Ha's aura and innocence as if she has a halo around her head. Ching Ha is not beautiful on the outside but inside as well. As for her most publicized relationship with Chin Han (Chun Hong), Pak Chi said that she has never paid attention because liking an idol means ignoring her personal life. She admired Ching Ha as a whole person and did not care about her idol's love life. She has met Ching Ha three times: when she was 8 or 9, then twice in the business. Time has not changed her view of Ching Ha and she will always admire this idol.

When asked where she feels she resembles the beauty, Pak Chi said, "I feel I don't have any resemblance at all. I want to be like her in having a happy family and children. If I can achieve that, then I am 100% like her. The fact is I have always longed for a good mate, a happy family and my own children. Artists may look brilliant on the surface, but underneath everything they are all suffering. I never ask for much. The person who loves me doesn't have to have a lot of money. Ching Ha has gone through some very tough road and her share of suffering. Professionally she is very daring. After experiencing so much she finally succeeded. She is a successful woman who is very courageous. If I can be like her then everything is perfect."

  67. eTaiwanNews.com - 2004-04-24 - Film star spurns court over ballot

  68. Film star Brigitte Lin was summoned by the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office yesterday for allegedly displaying her ballot publicly during the presidential election.

But she didn't show up to court. Her lawyer, Ker Jen-kang, answered the court's 9am summons on behalf of Lin, who is now living in Hong Kong. He asked Prosecutor Wu Chien-hui to excuse Lin from the day's proceedings.

He also said Lin told him that she would appear if she were summoned again

Ker said that Lin did not mean to publicly display her ballot.

"Everybody knows she has always been a pan-blue camp supporter. That's no secret," Ker said. "The moment when Ms. Lin was alleged to have displayed her ballot, she was actually trying to dry the ink by blowing on it. Nothing more."

Taipei District Prosecutors' Office Spokesman Chen Hung-ta  said, however, that responsibility had to be accepted if there was a breach of the law.

"Prosecutors never summon or indict someone unless there is evidence," Chen said.

"On this occasion, in addition to TV and newspaper coverage, we also received more than six tips which said that Lin had apparently [flashed her ballot]. It is therefore necessary that we talk to her in person," he said.

Lin returned to Taiwan to vote on March 20. After selecting her candidates, she held up the ballot and blew on it. This was visible to TV cameramen and newspaper photographers recording her inside the polling station.

"Lin didn't have to do this to identify herself as a pan-blue supporter," Ker said. "So it must all be a misunderstanding."

Chen did not say whether Wu would summon Lin again, but he said: "It will be very constructive for her reputation and for the public if she comes back and talks to prosecutors in person next time."

  70. Brigitte Lin, a former top Taiwanese film actress, has been accused of displaying her ballot in the poll in violation of electoral codes. She was seen blowing her vote paper dry before inserting it into the ballot box, a practice that Taiwanese lawmakers do all the time in showdown votes.

Lin, who lives in Hong Kong after marrying a fashion tycoon there, did not mask her support for the pan-blue presidential ticket.

Taipei prosecutors have summoned her to testify today, a move that drew vehement protest from the opposition People First Party. PFP lawmaker Liu Wen-hsiung said the party's legal team would volunteer to defend Lin, whose popularity in the 80s and early 90s remains unmatched to date.

  71. KMT -- International  Center - 2004-04-23

  72. KMT Spokesman Alex Tsai Denounced the DPP Government over Actress Brigitte Lin's Alleged Voting Violation

The Taipei District Court today summoned Actress Brigitte Lin to appear before the court on April 23 for questioning of her alleged voting violation on the presidential election day of March 20. According to the court, some citizen(s) had informed the court that Ms. Lin displayed her ballot in front of the mass media, which might have revealed which candidate that she had voted. The court pointed out that such ballot displaying behavior could cause her a penalty anywhere between an imprisonment term of two years, short-term custody, or a fine up to NT$200,000. Mr. Alex Tsai, the KMT's spokesman, today citing this action of the Taipei District Court as an example of the DPP government’s effort to enforce what is called “the Green Terror” to intimidate its political opponents. Mr. Tsai denounced such an effort. Mr. Tsai pointed out that the DPP government is seeking its revenge on those who have not supported them by attacking well-known public figures so as to silence others. Mr. Tsai defended Ms. Lin's behavior as simply a way to let the wooden chop ink on the ballot dry before she could put it into the ballot box. Therefore, it was not an act to show for whom she had voted. Mr. Tsai further added that what the DPP government has in mind now is to spread its “Green Terror” for political intimidation.

  74. Meanwhile, prosecutors yesterday planned to summon a well-known actress who allegedly violated electoral regulations by displaying her ballot in the March 20 election.

Brigitte Lin, who resides in Hong Kong but returned to Taiwan to vote on March 20, displayed her stamped ballot to the local media to publicize her support of Lien Chan.

Prosecutors deemed that Lin had possibly broken the election law, which requires voting to be confidential.

  103. (12/17/2002) Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha) attended her mother Lin Ma Lan Ying's Christian memorial service with her father and her husband Ying Lee
    Yuen.

Around 11:15PM, Lam Ching Ha, her husband, her father and other family members arrived at the funeral home.  Due to the number of press
members covering the event, the family hired 20 security personnel to prevent chaos and to keep the press out.

The service began at noon.  The location was decorated with white lilies and roses.  An orchestra accompanied a choir for the simple yet elegant service.  Lam Ching Ha said, "When my star shone at its the brightest on stage, Mama would always support me in silence.  When A crowd mobbed me, Mama would always be behind the crowd."  Having learned of her mother's depression Ching Ha told her family and friends, "When I was little, Mother was already suffering from depression and often lay in bed.  One day, Mother saw a frail me in a jacket cooking and mustered up the energy to cook for me.  Then she even said to me, 'I am cured now.' Only when I grew up did I learn that Mother's illness was called depression.  Eight years ago when I bought a house for my family, Mama happily said, 'I am truly like a rose fairy'.  Later Mama while using a saw a tree branches fell out of the tree and injured her legs and waist. After surgery she has never recovered."

After all of the ceremonies ended, Lam Ching Ha and her family left.  A sorrowful Ching Ha did not accept any press interview.  Reportedly Ching Ha and her husband would return to Hong Kong today.  With her heart closed to where she grew up, Ching Ha declined any press coverage in Taiwan but made a statement to thank the press for its concern.  "In Taiwan I was born, grew up, and entered show business.  Even when I became someone's wife and mother, Taiwan has always been the place that is the closest to my heart.  It is not only my homeland, but also where my beloved parents resided.  On December 4, my mother unfortunately suffered a fatal accident.  Aside from sorrow, I felt even more how great the responsibility of taking care of my family is.  In order to let
Mother rest in peace in Heaven, I should be even stronger.  Life from now on is still quite a long journey. Mother, all of my family and I would carry our memory of Mother, return to be quiet and peace, and properly continue to live our lives; we also wish that all of our friends in Taiwan could with their beloved family have happy lives."  The statement finally expressed, their hearts would still remain with Taiwan because the warmth that everyone have given them, and also because it remains the place where her most beloved parents reside and where she grew up.

Also in attendance were Ching Ha's good friend director Yonfan (Yeung Fan), Chu Yen Pin, and Mr. and Mrs. Tsui Hark.  Many from show business have also sent floral arrangements including Jackie Chan, Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing, Faye Wong, Tsui Hark, Ti Lung, Willie Chan Chi Keung, and Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga).

  111. Retired actress Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching-Ha) flew to Taipei yesterday after she received news that her mother, Lan-Ying, had died after falling from out of the window of a twelfth-story apartment early yesterday morning. Police believe that the 71 year-old committed suicide but are not ruling out the possibility that it was an accident since Lin's mother liked to pass the time by looking out her window. Lin's mother had been suffering from arthritis of the leg, hip and back and had been depressed as a result.  Reportedly, she had attempted suicide in the past.

In addition to Lin, Lin's mother leaves behind her 84-year old husband, two other daughters and one son. According to a report in Sing Pao, Lin has been the main caretaker of her parents as her siblings live in Mainland China and the United States. Last year, before going to the United States for surgery that hoped to relieve her arthritis, Lin's mother was quoted as saying: "As long as Ching-Ha is with me, I will not be scared of any surgery. They can do any type of surgery that they want. I won't be afraid of the pain."

Although Lin gained fame and fortune through an entertainment circle career that stretched over twenty years, her parents have kept a low profile and maintained a simple life. Retired since 1994, Lin has not made a movie since THREE SWORDSMAN. She is currently married to businessman Michael Ying Lee-Yuen and has two daugthers from the marriage. Reportedly, Lin had asked her parents to move to Hong Kong to stay with her but her parents chose to stay in Taipei instead.

Even though she was mobbed by reporters at the Taipei airport yesterday, Lin did not make any public statements.

  121. (7/7/2002) Tomorrow is Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha)'s 30th Anniversary in show business.  A famous Japanese film critic would release a biography
titled FOREVER BEAUTY OF THE EAST.

The 47 year old Ching Ha has always been known as one of the beauties in Hong Kong and Taiwan.  Over her 30 year year film career she
has made countless films like SWORDSMAN II (DUNG FONG BUT BAI) and BRIDE WITH WHITE HAIR (BAT FAT MOR NUI JUEN).  As for her personal life, Ching Ha's best known romance is with Charlie Chun Cheung Lam.  In 94 she married Ying Lee Yuen, after which she retired from film and gave birth to daughters Oi Lam and Yin Oi.  Earlier she was rumored to return for a sequel to ZU: WARRIORS OF THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN (SHOOK SAN), but she denied the rumor.

The Japanese film critic/biographer is a Ching Ha fan.  Over the past ten years he has gathered information on Ching Ha and through Ching Ha's friends Tsui Hark and See Nam Sun he finally met with Ching Ha and confirmed the biography plan.  The biographer has interviewed many who has influenced Ching Ha's film career like Yiu Kin and Sung Chuen Sau.  The biographer would also like to interview Ching Ha's parents soon for her childhood.  Ching Ha has requested the biographer to translate the drafts into Chinese so she could personally read it before allowing the book to be published.
