Lin Ching Hsia is Hua Pei Yu who is 26 years of age. Her father is retired, her mother is mentally unstable and her brother Pei Hua is dead. She is tutor to the 18 year old daughter Hsien Hsien of famous and rich 42 year old lawyer Chao Tzu Keng who is acted by Chin Han. Both Chao and Pei Yu fall in love with each other. They encounter obstacles as each had ex-lovers and have to face up to jealously but true love conquer all. Pei Yu even saves the day when the boyfriend of Hsien Hsien is entangled with the sister of Pei Yu's ex-fiancee due to her good biology and mathematical knowledge.
Why is the show titled The Marigolds? Well, Hsien Hsien is not good at studies but she is good at gardening and of course she has a beautiful garden that grows marigolds.
A light romantic movie that does not require any kleenex. Nothing was covered in depth although opportunities arises from her mentally depressed mother, the divorced ex-fiancee which never appeared and Chao's jealous ex-girlfriend. Yes, this is another of those 1970s movies where she spends a fair bit of time in the garden.
