Although I have seen only a few movies of Lin Ching Hsia from the 1970s, this movie is the best I have seen so far from that decade. Lin Ching Hsia is Chun Chun, a talented young pianist. Charlie Chin is Ai Fen, a talented violinist. They met at the music academy during winter soon after she move in from Taipei. Her father is a manager and his mother is a doctor. They met each other's parent and was accepted by each other's family. Unfortunately she has leukemia and has only 6 months or less to live. They never told her she was dying but she instinctively knows it. They get married and they walk off into the snow.
What's really good about this movie is that its plot is so simple and fresh that the actors and actresses actually get to act and develop their characters. Many of Lin Ching Hsia's movies from the 70s, the man in her life always gets jealous of another man which did not happen in this movie. Also, this show does not use soft focus lens or have her surrounded by flowers or have a parent who is an obstacle to their love. The winter background was very effectively used and brought out the purity and gentleness of their love. Passion was not shown but the look in their eyes was full of affection. The acting was not overplayed unlike the other movies from the 70s. For some, maybe you might need a kleenex. This movie does remind me a bit of Love Story.
