The movie is bigger than the Swordsman II. Besides the Japanese, it now includes the Spaniards and the Ming court officials. The fight scenes includes sea warfare. Asia the Invincible now wants to be World the Invincible.
Brigitte Lin as Asia The Invincible goes through a wide variety of personae. She starts as a recluse who is disguised and shows reluctance and anger at having to re-enter the world of martial arts. She shows this determination to save the world from the various fake Asia the Invincibles. She laments missing the joys of simple folk. The simple look of joy at the camp fire when she plays the musical instrument is very infectious. Later, she is in a murderous rage which turns on the world including those who are close to her. The loneliness and desolation of Asia the Invincible is starkly shown.
