Brigitte Lin acts as a brave girl guide who helped to bring supplies and hope to the soldiers guarding a building in Shanghai. Her father wanted her to be safe at home but was convinced to let her continue on by the enthusiasm of the scouts and guides. The movie is a patriotic movie and portrays the Chinese struggle against the Japanese. A lot of emphasis on Chinese values and even patriotism is a stronger value than filial piety. Definately a cast of hundreds with the help of the army. The show starts with Lin Ching Hsia swimming in the river to save 2 children and just before the show ends with her swimming across the river back to Chinese territory. Click for the conclusion.
One of those rare shows where both Lin Ching Hsia and Chin Han act in the same movie but never in the same scene. Another rarity is that she only wears the school girl or girl guide uniform. No fashion parade for Brigitte in this show.
Of special mention, according to Stanley, in the famous scene when

Lin swims across the river under very cold conditions, she actually
only
started to learn to swim just for this role.
Brigitte was awarded the Best Actress Award of the 22nd Asian Film
Festival for the role in "800 Heroes" in 1976.
